Keady Announces Endorsements from Entire Belmar Democratic Delegation

BELMAR, NJ – On the heels of two powerful performances in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District primary debates, Democratic candidate Jim Keady released endorsements today from every elected Democrat on the Belmar Council, as well as Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty.

“We are excited to earn the endorsement of community leaders who know Jim best, and have seen firsthand Jim’s commitment to the people of the 4th congressional district,” said Keady for Congress Campaign Manager Ryan Hughes. “These prominent Democrats have been on the front lines with Jim fighting on behalf of New Jersey’s working families for decades.”

Matt Doherty, Mayor of Belmar, praised Jim’s commitment to community and viability as the 4th District Democratic nominee: “As the Mayor of Belmar, I’m proud to endorse Jim Keady’s candidacy for the 4th Congressional District. Jim was born and raised here, and has deep ties to this community and throughout the 4th District. His dedication to public service was on display in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, where Jim led by example through his volunteerism amid cleanup relief efforts, and he continued to help families who were in dire need to rebuild their homes and livelihoods. This commitment to community, service, and activism is why I believe he is the best Democratic candidate to take on Chris Smith in November.”

Jennifer Nicolay, Belmar Councilwoman, spoke about Jim’s dedication to help Shore residents recover from Superstorm Sandy in a statement: “When Superstorm Sandy hit, Jim and I worked hand-in-hand tirelessly to help the people of Belmar and throughout the Jersey Shore get to a safe place, get back in their homes, and begin rebuilding their lives. I watched Jim work from sun up to sundown, day-in and day-out volunteering his time and leadership to help his hometown neighbors in need. Unlike our current congressman, Jim has lived here in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District his entire life, he knows the people in our district and the issues that are important to us. Moreover, as a woman from this district who has seen Chris Smith’s destructive policies, I know that Jim will amplify women’s voices in Congress and fight for our reproductive rights, equal pay for equal work, paid maternity and paternity leave, and ending sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace. As a Belmar Town Councilwoman, I’m proud to stand with Jim as he prepares to take on Chris Smith in November.”

Tom Brennan, Belmar Councilman, said the recent debate clinched his endorsement: “When I watched Jim at the Wall/Howell Democratic town hall debate on Monday, I saw the man I’ve known for the past 15 years right where he should be – leading by example, now in an effort to represent us as a Congressman in the 4th District. I’ve watched Jim’s tireless efforts of behalf of unions and worker’s rights, and his fierce dedication as a public servant to the people of Asbury Park where he served as a City Councilman. On a personal note, when Superstorm Sandy hit our hometown of Belmar, Jim immediately sprung into action to lead cleanup teams to help our neighbors get cleaned up. This was nasty, brutal work – and my teenage son would attest – he went out one day to work with Jim and came home to say ‘Dad, I’m not doing that again!’ Jim is the leader we need to take on Chris Smith in November. He cares deeply about the 4th district, because this is his home. I’m proud to support him in this race.”

Brian MaGovern, Belmar Councilman, who watched Jim grow up in his community, said  “I’ve known Jimmy Keady since he was in first grade. I taught him as a young child, I coached him well before he became a professional athlete, and I’ve watched him grow into a man of integrity. Whether it was Jim teaching my daughter at St. Rose High School, or coaching kids across Monmouth County, I know that Jim will make us proud as a representative in Congress. We need a Democratic candidate who will take the fight to Chris Smith. I can tell you firsthand about that kind of fight. I was sitting two rows in front of Jim when our former Governor, Chris Christie, screamed at Jim to “sit down and shut up” when Jim was merely standing up for Superstorm Sandy families who had not received promised aid from the then-Governor. Jim is the right man for this moment in our country, and I’m proud to endorse his candidacy.”

“I am honored to have the support of Matt, Jennifer, Tom, and Brian here in Belmar. I’ve been on the front lines with each of these individuals fighting for working families for decades,” said candidate Jim Keady. “Their dedication for improving the lives of our neighbors – be they Republican, Democrat, or Independent – is the passion and commitment to service that I want to bring to Washington, D.C. on behalf of the residents of the 4th District.”
