Kean Bill Requiring Proper Training of Behavior Analysts Signed into Law
Legislation sponsored by Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean ensuring the qualifications of behavioral analysts has been signed by the Governor.
“Behavior analysis is a powerful and promising tool,” said Kean (R-21). “The field is rapidly expanding. The specialty is being used more frequently to treat autism, developmental disabilities, and mental health issues. This new law will ensure behavioral analysts are educated, skilled and licensed.”
The measure (A-4608/S-3099) addresses concerns about the qualification of practicing analysts, establishing a seven-member State Board of Behavior Analyst Examiners within the Division of Consumer Affairs to oversee training and certification.
“To protect the public, it makes sense to ensure specialists are properly educated and licensed,” said Kean. “A professional who has not been fully trained in behavior analysis can do more harm than good.”
An applicant must be certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board to be eligible for licensing as a behavior analyst under the new law.
