KENYATTA STEWART ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR NEW JERSEY’S 35TH DISTRICT ASSEMBLY, IGNITING A MOVEMENT FOR THE FUTURE

Paterson, NJ – Kenyatta Stewart has officially launched his campaign for the New Jersey General Assembly in the 35th District, declaring his candidacy as more than just a political run—it is a movement for transformation, opportunity, and community empowerment. With a lifelong commitment to justice, economic development, and public safety, Stewart is ready to bring bold leadership to Trenton that reflects the diverse needs of the 35th District.  More than 500 supporters gathered last night to witness the official launch of Kenyatta Stewart’s campaign in a show of unity and commitment to a brighter future for the district. The event brought together a diverse coalition of residents, professionals, and elected officials, all rallying behind Stewart’s vision for progress. Among the key figures in attendance were Council President Larry Crump, Councilman Pat Council, Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, and former Paterson Mayors Jeff Jones and Joey Torres, who set aside past rivalries to jointly endorse Stewart. Their support underscores the strength of his campaign and the broad coalition forming around his leadership. Also present were 1st Ward Councilman Mike Jackson, 4th Ward Councilwoman Ruby Cotton, 5th Ward Councilman Luis Velez, and Prospect Park Councilman Robert Artis, along with former Council Members Anthony Davis and Bill McCoy. Board of Education Members Valerie Freeman, Corey Teague, and Manchester Schools Board Member Bridget Arrick were in attendance, alongside former School Board Members Nakema Redmond, Emanuel Capers, Kenny Simmons, and Christopher Irving. Community leaders such as Benny Cook, Al Moody, Rev. William Cash, KC Melvin, Keith Watson, Raina Tavares, and Rashawn Davis also showed their support. The event was hosted by Manny Martinez, former School Board Member, and TJ Best, former County Commissioner.

This is not just an election; this is a movement,” Stewart said at the event. “The 35th District is a place of resilience and diversity, and our policies must reflect that. Every resident—whether a lifelong homeowner, a young professional, or a hardworking parent—deserves a representative who will fight for their future.”

The 35th District is home to a rich blend of cultures, backgrounds, and economic realities. Kenyatta Stewart is running on a platform that ensures every resident—regardless of income, background, or neighborhood—has the opportunity to thrive. His vision focuses on:

  • Economic Growth for All: Supporting small businesses, attracting new industries, and ensuring both entrepreneurs and workers have access to resources that lead to long-term stability.
  • Public Safety and Stronger Communities: Promoting partnerships between law enforcement and residents, expanding mental health resources, and investing in community programs that prevent crime before it happens.
  • Excellence in Education: Advocating for stronger public schools, increased funding for technology and extracurricular programs, and expanding access to career training and college readiness initiatives.
  • Affordable and Inclusive Housing: Strengthening protections for renters and homeowners, encouraging responsible development, and making sure families can afford to live and thrive in their communities.
  • Infrastructure and Quality of Life: Pushing for improvements in public transportation, roads, and green spaces to enhance daily life for all residents.

Stewart has spent years advocating for fairness and opportunity—whether through his legal career, community service, or work on behalf of working families. His leadership is grounded in action, and he is determined to take that fight to Trenton.

The 35th District deserves a representative who understands our struggles, who has lived them, and who will fight tirelessly to bring resources, jobs, and opportunities home,” Stewart said. “I am ready to be that representative. I am ready to lead.”
