LABOR DAY MASS AND MARCH

LABOR DAY MASS AND MARCH

SEIU Local 32BJ members to attend a Mass and Conduct a March to honor the rights of workers on Labor Day in the city of Newark

Newark, NJ – On September 4, workers for SEIU Local 32BJ will attend a 10:30 a.m. mass at St. Michael’s Church in Newark and then march to Harriet Tubman Park in honor of workers’ rights. Unions are the reason why this country has a 5-day, 40-hour workweek. This year’s Labor Day comes only weeks before the launch of bargaining in 32BJ’s commercial contract campaign. It’s time to show the industry that we’re ready to fight for a contract we deserve.

“Today, we celebrated the enormous sacrifices workers have made across this country,” said 32BJ SEIU Executive Vice President and New Jersey State Director Kevin Brown. “Labor Day offers an opportunity to remember and to honor those sacrifices, most recently during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to double down on building a just future. For SEIU Local 32BJ, that means going all in on our fight for a fair contract for our commercial cleaner members. With Black and Brown Americans often doing the country’s most dangerous jobs, we must remember that the fight for workers’ rights is a fight for racial justice. These workers deserve to be treated with the utmost respect and we will continue to fight for them as a union. Period.”
