Laborers Union Endorses Schwartz, Orgen and Pagan for Teaneck Council

Teaneck, N.J. — The New Jersey affiliate of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) has endorsed Deputy Mayor Mark J. Schwartz and Planning Board Members Karen Lew Orgen and Michael Pagan for Teaneck Council.  The politically-active New Jersey Laborers Union includes more than 25,000 members across the state.

“We are grateful for the endorsement and support of LIUNA,” said Schwartz, Orgen and Pagan in a joint statement.  “We are committed to helping the working families of Teaneck with real and meaningful results. Whether combating the current challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping Teaneck affordable by maintaining a zero percent increase to the tax rate to help working families, maintaining our infrastructure or protecting the environment, we remain steadfast in honoring the principles of the families who work hard to make our community a great place to live and raise a family in.”

LIUNA represents a diverse and hardworking membership of men and women who believe that working together works best. They are unified in collective bargaining, they collaborate with their employees to construct with quality and build things on time and under budget, and they work with public officials who share their belief in creating policies in support of working families.

An excerpt of the LIUNA endorsement letter is below:

“As you may know, our organization places heavy emphasis on community and political involvement. Laborers take great care in selecting those office holders and candidates whom we contribute to and endorse.

We appreciate your willingness to address our concerns such as labor agreements, responsible contracting and labor law enforcement – and – to act in the best interest of our members and their families. You have earned our support because of your positive response to workers’ needs and your commitment to fight for union jobs and protection of our right to organize in the industry.”
