Labrosse Team Will Seek Re-Election In Hackensack

Running on their Record of Revitalization and Progress, Mayor Labrosse and Deputy Mayor Canestrino will be Joined by Three New Candidates

HACKENSACK, NJ —  Mayor John Labrosse and Deputy Mayor Kathy Canestrino will run for a new term in the May municipal election, and they will be joined by three new candidates who share their vision of revitalizing Hackensack and moving the community forward.

“Our hometown has made tremendous progress but there’s more work to do to reach our goal of making Hackensack one of America’s premier small cities,” said Mayor Labrosse. “I’m excited to run on our record of revitalization and progress, and I can’t wait to share all the positive things happening with our residents while introducing them to three new members of our team who are committed to keeping Hackensack moving forward.”

Mayor Labrosse and Deputy Mayor Canestrino will be joined on the Labrosse Team ticket by:

  • Marlene Somerville, a management consultant and community activist
  • Lance Powell, an educator and former Board of Education President
  • Marco Manuel Howington, a real estate development consultant

The Labrosse Team will run on their strong record of redeveloping the city’s once dilapidated downtown, revitalizing Main Street with new housing, restaurants, offices and shopping, stabilizing property taxes, creating hundreds of units of affordable housing and investing in the city’s parks, recreation facilities and infrastructure.

“When our team took office Main Street was full of rundown empty buildings and could be dangerous after dark,” said Deputy Mayor Canestrino. “River Street really was a river whenever it rained and many homeowners had several feet of water in their basements. Our city was practically bankrupted by machine politics and mismanagement and had a poor reputation. It’s remarkable how far we have come, but we are not done yet — we are running in May to finish the job and ensure that Hackensack is set up for success for decades to come.”
