Council Introduces Capital Improvements Ordinance on Heels of Adopting 20% Tax Growth Reduction Budget

DUMONT, N.J. — Councilman Andrew LaBruno and the Dumont Borough Council are continuing to put the community on a path to a financially stable future by introducing a major Capital Improvements Ordinance at Tuesday night’s meeting that will lead to significant investments in services, equipment and infrastructure. The ordinance was introduced by a unanimous vote, including Councilman LaBruno and his running mate Councilwoman Lisa Rossillo voting in favor.

“Dumont has always been a destination for families like mine looking for a safe, vibrant community where they can raise their children, but that can only remain the case if we make the right policy choices to invest in our assets and attract new revenues to protect our taxpayers,” said Councilman LaBruno, who is running for Mayor in the November General Election. “I’m proud of the work the Borough Council is doing, and I look forward to bringing it to the next level as our new Mayor with the support of residents who are ready to see progress in Dumont.”

Councilman LaBruno and his colleagues approved the 2019 municipal budget on May 21. The adopted budget includes a 20% reduction in tax growth compared to the previous year, providing the Democratic Council majority’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and honest budgeting. This comes despite increased costs for employee health benefits that the borough must shoulder, without any increase in state aid.

The introduced capital improvements ordinance includes the purchase of new vehicles for the Dumont Police Department, Fire Department and Public Works Department, improvements to borough streets and sewer system, new equipment to improve services for residents and increase efficiency in Borough Hall, among other significant investments.
