Lambertville Council Candidates Steve Stegman and Benedetta Lambert Call on the Governing Body to Pledge Against Selling Lambertville’s Historical Buildings

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — WEDNESDAY, 13 MAY 2020

Lambertville, NJ — Despite the promise that most action on the redevelopment plan would come to a halt, the City continues to recklessly spend money towards it. In direct response to this maneuver, Lambertville Council Candidates Steve Stegman and Benedetta Lambert are making an urgent call to action in order to preserve Lambertville’s historical resources.

On May 21st the City will vote to bond well over $100,000 towards both a “scattered site study” and the funding to pay consultants for the redevelopment plan. Given these actions, both candidates are calling on the Governing Body to pledge to the public that they will not sell Lambertville’s historical buildings as a part of any future plan.

“While we are thankful that the Governing Body decided to follow our initiative regarding the redevelopment plan and delaying a final vote — they are still taking steps to implement the plan. As the City continues to commit bond money towards a future development plan, we need a commitment from our elected leaders to keep Lambertville the town we know and appreciate,” said Council Candidate and former Council President Steve Stegman. “The message from the Mayor and Council must be clear: Lambertville’s city-owned historical buildings are not for sale.”

“Lambertville is a city known for its rich Victorian architecture and historic buildings, and we have a duty to preserve that history for future generations to come,” Said Council Candidate Benedetta Lambert. “Lambertville has spoken, and the Governing Body must respect the desire of the public in regard to our City’s historic resources. In moments of crisis our elected leaders must be upfront with their constituents, and this time is no different.”
