Lance: $2.6 Million Grant Awarded to Zufall In Dover

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today announced that the Zufall Health Center in Dover has secured a $2.6 million federal grant through the Department of Health and Human Services.  Lance, a member of the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, has helped lead the effort in Congress to preserve and protect community health centers.

Many New Jersey residents count on Zufall and its team of professionals for high quality health care.  We need strong community health centers in this country to bring medical care into all communities.  Zufall has been successful in this mission and deserves this grant.  Zufall has a strong record on patient care and taxpayers win when emergency room visits are reduced and people live healthier lives,” said Lance.

Eva Turbiner, President and CEO of Zufall, added, “Zufall Health is grateful to Congressman Lance for his ongoing support of Zufall and the other community health centers across the US.  This federal funding will ensure that our 35,000 patients throughout north and central New Jersey have continued access to essential health services.”

Since the first community health centers were founded nearly fifty years ago, health centers have become the Nation’s largest primary care network, collectively serving more than 22 million patients in more than 9,000 communities in every state and territory.  Health centers are locally-governed small businesses providing a comprehensive range of primary care services while remaining responsive to community needs.  Health centers employ more than 150,000 people, and generate an economic impact in the billions in some of the nation’s most economically deprived communities.  Studies have shown health centers generate savings to the health care system on the order of $24 billion annually, primarily through reductions in unnecessary emergency room visits and hospitalizations.

In 2015, Lance was presented with the  “Distinguished Community Health Champion Award” by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC).  NACHC honored Lance for his steadfast commitment to the Nation’s Community Health Centers and the millions of people they serve.
