Lance: Bedminster Receives Secret Service Designation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today announced his office has received confirmation from the United States Secret Service that Bedminster has been designated a priority for presidential protection – allowing law enforcement and other protection-related costs eligible for reimbursement by the federal government.

Somerset County Prosecutor Robertson and the excellent law enforcement personnel in New Jersey have a tremendous duty: assisting the Secret Service in protecting the President and keeping residents safe during President Trump’s visits to New Jersey. I believe the additional law enforcement expenses are a federal responsibility and I will continue to seek parity for Bedminster and Somerset County,” said Lance, the federal representative for Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

Lance previously announced that the U.S. Department of Justice is permitting New Jersey, New York and Florida to apply for funding related to the protection of President Trump during the presidential transition.  Since taking office, President Trump has made a number of trips to the Trump National Golf Club, prompting the heavy involvement of local law enforcement.  With this new designation, Bedminster is now considered a ‘residence of the President’ and will be eligible to apply to receive federal grants exclusively for providing reimbursement of law enforcement personnel costs for protection activities.  Lance secured funds for the program through a recent government funding measure.
