Lance Votes to End Medical Device Tax
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today voted to repeal the medical device tax – one of the most onerous tax provisions included in Obamacare.
“The medical device tax makes no sense – it taxes critical health care devices patients need and it punishes New Jersey-based businesses at the center of medical innovation for the world. It’s a lose-lose for New Jersey and it is time to be repealed.
“The Nation and especially New Jersey should be trying to protect and preserve job-creating industries on the cusp of life-saving breakthroughs, not chasing these industries away. New Jersey is home to more than 60,000 medical technology and related jobs. And at a time when many politicians are promoting policies in New Jersey that could drive away good-paying jobs, the Protect Medical Innovation Act will protect importers and manufacturing jobs and innovation in the Garden State’s health care industry,” said Lance.
Lance has been a driving force in Congress in opposing the tax, successfully winning legislative efforts to delay its implementation. New Jersey is home to more than 60,000 medical device jobs or related positions in other sectors. The total economic impact of the device industry in New Jersey alone is nearly $13 billion each year.
