Land and Milam on Measure Aiming to Improve Cape May County Tourism

Bill Approved by Assembly Appropriations Committee Monday

(TRENTON) – Assemblymen Bruce Land and Matt Milam (both D-Cape May, Atlantic County, Cumberland) issued the following statement Friday on legislation (A-3869) they have sponsored to provide funding critical to continuing expansion and development of tourism opportunities in the Wildwoods area in Cape May County:

Assemblyman Land: “The Wildwoods have been a longtime summer destination for many families in New Jersey and all across the east coast. This bill would help to support the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority in their ongoing efforts to ensure Wildwoods continue to remain a vacation and tourism hotspot for all in the coming years. Wildwoods’ businesses brought in $33 million in state and local taxes in 2015. It may be time to re-invest some of those tax dollars back into the area because an investment into the Wildwoods in Cape May County would benefit the entire state tourism economy.”

Assemblyman Milam: “I am so proud to be a sponsor of this bill, my first as a member of New Jersey’s 218th legislative session.  For years, the Wildwoods have served New Jerseyans and people up and down the east coast as a premier summer vacation, and we intend for this to remain a reality. The Wildwoods are vital for New Jersey’s tourism industry to thrive, and these funds will allow us to make the necessary improvements to ensure that even more people travel to the Wildwoods and immerse themselves in the beauty of Cape May County.”

Milam was sworn into the General Assembly on Thursday, January 31.
