Latina Civic PAC Announces Endorsement of Latina Leaders

Trenton – October 29, 2021 –  New Jersey’s leading organization in increasing Latina representation in government and politics, Latina Civic Political Action Committee (“Latina Civic PAC”) proudly announces the endorsement of the following candidates:

  • Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez (D-5)
  • Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (D-29)
  • Senator Nellie Pou (D-35)
  • Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-20)
  • Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor-Marin (D-29)
  • Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez (D-32)
  • Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro (D-33)
  • Danielle Freire, Jersey City Council candidate
  • Celeste Fernandez, Atlantic County Commissioner candidate
  • Nohemi Soria-Perez, Camden City Council candidate

Latina Civic PAC is a non-partisan political action committee whose mission is to increase the number of Latinas in elected and appointed offices in the State of New Jersey. The organization promotes and supports progressive leaders who stand up for an agenda that invests in Latina political leadership and advances critical issues that matter to Latinas in New Jersey.

“We are so proud to be endorsing such strong Latinas,” said Laura Matos, chair of Latina Civic PAC. “The COVID-19 pandemic has been disproportionately hard on New Jersey’s Latino community, and the leadership and knowledge these women exhibit is exactly what is needed to continue aiding our communities.”

Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez is an Army veteran who has been a member of the New Jersey State Senate since 2014. Senator M. Teresa Ruiz has been serving as Senate President Pro Tempore since 2018 and was recently named the first Latina Majority Leader. Senator Nellie Pou was previously a member of the New Jersey State Assembly before becoming a senator in 2012.

 

Assemblywoman Annette Quijano was appointed as the Majority Conference Leader in 2020. Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor-Marin previously served on the Newark Board of Education before being elected to the Assembly in 2013. Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez was appointed as the Deputy Speaker in 2020. Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro has been a member of the State Assembly since 2016.

Danielle Freire is running for city council in her hometown to make Jersey City a place where all residents can thrive. Celeste Fernandez is an immigrant from the Dominican Republic and is committed to protecting the health, safety, welfare and quality of life for everyone who lives and works in Atlantic County. Nohemi Soria-Perez is the current Chief of Staff for NJ’s 5th Legislative District and is a commissioner for the Housing Authority of the City of Camden.

“The endorsement of these strong leaders is of extreme importance to us,” says Noemi Velazquez, chair of the endorsement committee for Latina Civic PAC. “Promoting women candidates is our mission, and we take great pride in endorsing and supporting the many Latinas working to improve their communities throughout the State of New Jersey. Once elected or appointed, they count on our continued support.”
