Latino Community Backs Democrats of District 37

No ticket is more qualified to fight for our state’s most marginalized populations

Bergen County, NJ – Three prominent Latino American organizations came out to endorse the full slate of Bergen County’s legislative ticket today, Gordon Johnson for State Senate, Shama Haider, and Ellen Park for State Assembly. They cited Johnson’s leadership in Trenton on key pieces of legislation that bolstered the rights of immigrants in New Jersey and expanded economic opportunities for our state’s most marginalized communities.

“New Jersey is one of the most diverse states in the nation. We have a streak of pride in our immigrant communities that goes back to the founding of this country and this democratic ticket finally reflects the melting pot we have so often touted as the beauty of America.

“Johnson has stood with the Latino Legislative Caucus for over a decade. He has championed drivers licenses and occupational licenses for undocumented immigrants, he helped expand access to health care for underserved communities, and more recently he sponsored COVID relief legislation for immigrant families left out of the federal CARES Act. Time and time again, Johnson has supported the Latino community and it’s our honor to return the kindness.

“Together with Shama Haider, a Pakistani American, and Ellen Park, a Korean American, we are certain there is no other ticket more adept at fighting for our state’s most marginalized populations.”

Groups endorsing Gordon Johnson for State Senate, Shama Haider and Ellen Park for State Assembly, include:

Latino-American Democratic Association
President, Andres Acebo

Hispanic-USA of Bergen County
President, Jesus Galvis

Dominican American Council
President, Lucilo Santos
