FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hillsborough, New Jersey – Sunday afternoon Assemblyman Roy Freiman stopped Republican challenger Ross Traphagen, while Traphagen was knocking on doors in Freiman’s neighborhood. When he pulled beside him in his car, it was clear the Assemblyman was agitated. Freiman repeatedly demanded a fact check of a Facebook post by Traphagen mentioning the recent cuts in state aid to Hillsborough schools.

Since Assemblyman Freiman asked, the LD-16 Republican team is happy to provide him and the voters of the district with the facts:

  1. Freiman praised the 2023-2024 state budget and its school aid upon its initial proposal, despite the fact that Hillsborough received a 4.2 percent decrease of $913,106 from the 2022-23 state aid figure.
  2. This is the fifth year in a row Hillsborough is losing state funding for our children’s educations.
  3. Freiman had the opportunity to vote to fully fund Hillsborough’s schools with no education cuts and he chose not to even cast a vote.

Ross Traphagen added, “I know Roy Freiman struggles with facts, but I believe our elected leaders should set a good example for their communities. That is why I am happy to oblige him with the truth after he stopped me in his car this past Sunday. The children and taxpayers of Hillsborough have suffered under his leadership. For five straight years this school district has been gouged with higher and higher taxes and gotten increasingly less in return. It is the Assemblyman’s right to run for re-election, but I don’t think anyone would fault him if he just quietly walked away from this job.”
