LD26 Assembly Candidate Christine Clarke Signs No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge

Rockaway Twp., NJ:   As part of her commitment to fighting for clean water, clean air and a healthier, renewable energy powered future, 26th Legislative District State Assembly candidate Christine Clarke signed the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge as part of her campaign’s International Day of Peace event at the Parks Lake Gazebo in Rockaway Township.

The pledge promises to disallow the corrupting influence of corporate polluters’ money by rejecting their campaign contributions.  Candidates signing the pledge promise to their constituents that they will not knowingly take contributions from the fossil fuel industry and will either return the money if received, or donate it to climate-focused organizations working on protective policies and conservative stewardship of our finite natural resources.  Clarke’s signature and submission were accepted and her name appears on the pledge website.

Ever since the pledge was enacted in 2017, more than 1,700 legislators from 48 states have signed the pledge.  50 members of Congress and more than 250 state legislators have signed.

As an Honorary Adviser with the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development-NY, Clarke felt Peace Day was the perfect time to sign the pledge, especially after addressing the crowd at the Morris County Climate Strike the day prior.

“Anthropogenic climate impacts are causing real harm here in New Jersey and around the world,” Clarke said. “Pollution is exacerbating the displacement crisis by way of food and water scarcity, floods and wildfires, elevated risk of severe weather events, and more. Millions of people have already had to move this year.  Here in New Jersey, we are ground zero for impacts and have seen more warming than any other state in the continental U.S.  Climate change isn’t a far off future issue we can postpone dealing with. It’s here now. Signing this pledge is another promise to voters that my vote is not for sale, and when we win on November 5, I will work hard to protect our families while advocating a fair and just energy transition, welcoming the job opportunities and economic growth to be found in the booming renewable energy industry.”

Clarke has a history of environmental activism as detailed on her campaign page. She is endorsed by a growing number of unions, environment and conservation groups, women’s rights groups, civic engagement and grassroots organizations. She has lived in Jefferson for 15 years with her husband and four children.  You can learn more about her at www.clarkeforassembly.com.

The 26th District includes 13 communities in Essex, Morris, and Passaic counties: Butler, Fairfield, Jefferson, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Montville, Morris Plains, North Caldwell, Parsippany, Rockaway Township, Verona, West Caldwell, and West Milford.
