LD30 Democrats: Kean and Thomson fail to obtain AFL/CIO endorsement in 2021

Kean and Thomson fail to obtain AFL/CIO endorsement in 2021

Howell Township, NJ: The AFL/CIO announced their endorsements for the 2021 General Election and
noticeably absent were Assemblyman Sean Kean and Assemblyman Ned Thomson in LD30. Kean has
enjoyed union support in the past including the 2019 endorsement, but he has failed to obtain the
endorsement in 2021. This November the incumbents will face off against newcomers Stephen
Dobbins and Matt Filosa. Dobbins, the son of a member of Local 94 for 36 years, and Filosa have been
advocating for bringing union jobs back to LD30 as the number one issue in their platform.

“I have watched my Dad commute into New York City from Howell for almost my entire life and I can
see the toll that commute has taken on him. Why aren’t union jobs in LD30?” asked Dobbins. “Just
drive by the park and ride in our communities and you will see union members getting on a bus or
train for their long commute to find a good job with good benefits and we need to fix that, because
Kean and Thomson have failed in their long tenures in office.”

Throughout the past five months Filosa has discussed investing in our infrastructure. “We have
amazing natural resources that need to be protected in New Jersey and one way to do that is to shift
to renewable energy. When we discuss wind farms it is not just helping the environment it is helping
the economy. Wind farms require a well trained local workforce to build and operate them and that
workforce will be coming from our trade unions in New Jersey”, according to Filosa.

It is clear that the AFL/CIO recognizes that they do not have effective partners in the Assembly from
LD30 and this November voters will have the chance to change that. For more information on
