LD32 CANDIDATES FONSECA AND PU EXPRESS OUTRAGE OVER UPCOMING RATE HIKES

Hudson County - "We are submitting this statement to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to express our outrage over the upcoming rate hike being forced upon New Jersey residents by public utility companies.
It is simply unacceptable that every ratepayer is facing a 20% increase in utility costs, with no justification beyond corporate greed. Families are already struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living—now they’re being asked to pay even more for the same service, with no accountability from those responsible. This is exactly why we are running to represent Hoboken and Jersey City in New Jersey’s 32nd Legislative District in the General Assembly. We refuse to stand by in silence while working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small business owners carry the burden of a system designed to work against them.
The lack of transparency and oversight from these utility companies is outrageous. This increase will force some households to choose between keeping the lights on and putting food on the table. If elected, we will immediately join Senator Raj Mukherji and the rest of the legislature to demand greater oversight, transparency, and protections against these unjustified rate hikes. We will push for reforms that ensure utility companies answer to the people they serve—not just their bottom line.
New Jersey residents deserve protection from blatant money grabs like this rate hike, and the BPU has failed in its responsibility to provide those protections. Paying 20% more for the same level of service, with no consequences for those responsible, is an insult to every single ratepayer. In both our professional work and throughout our campaign, we have spoken with countless individuals from all walks of life. The one thing they all have in common is that they are already stretched thin—trying to make every dollar count. An unexpected 20% rate increase only deepens their financial burden. As private citizens, we are outraged. As legislators, we will take action. We will stand alongside Senator Mukherji and others who believe in fighting for fairness, accountability, and economic justice."
