New Jersey – Senator Gordon Johnson and Assemblymembers Shama Haider and Ellen Park issue the following statement regarding the proposed June 3rd primary and the fact that it lands on the Jewish observance of Shavuot:
“The ability to participate in elections is a cornerstone of our democracy. It is critical that the electoral process accommodates the diverse needs of our communities so that no voter is forced to choose between their faith and their civic duty. By supporting adjustments to the primary calendar, we can remove barriers to participation and affirm our shared commitment to inclusion and equity.
“We commend Governor Murphy and the leadership in the Legislature for recognizing this important issue. Protecting and expanding voter access should be a bipartisan priority because our democracy is strongest when every New Jerseyan has the opportunity to make their voice heard.” |
