“Ya es hora de que representantes de las diversas comunidades asentadas en New Jersey celebren la segunda cumbre histórica de líderes Latinos que dicen PRESENTE; nos comprometemos a participar, dilucidar nuestra realidad socioeconómica, planear estratégicamente y apoyar el trabajo de organizaciones como LLANJ que abogan por el apoderamiento e inclusión de todos”, dijo Néstor Montilla, Sr., Presidente de LLANJ. “La cumbre ofrece una plataforma no partidista donde los Latinos de New Jersey podran establecer una agenda de desarrollo socioeconómico y político para el avance de las diversas comunidades del estado”.

El programa de la cumbre, a tomar lugar el sábado, 2 de marzo de 8:30AM a 3:00PM en Berkeley College, 44 Rifle Camp Road, Woodland Park, NJ 07424, incluye dos sesiones plenarias y foros sobre educación, desarrollo económico, iniciativa de comunidad de fe y representación. También incluye una sesión de desarrollo de liderazgo juvenil con estudiantes de escuela superior de Paterson y Perth Amboy.

La cumbre iniciará con una breve ponencia de Martin Pérez, Esq, Presidente Fundador de LLANJ, quien enfocará su presentacion acerca de cómo se fundó y se ha desarrollado LLANJ en las últimas dos décadas. Le seguira un conversacion sobre Seguridad Pública y Derechos Civiles, dirigida por el Honorable Gurbir S. Grewal, procurador del estado de New Jersey. Tambien presentará Richard Rivera, co-presidente del Comitéde Derechos Civiles de LLANJ acerca dep los reportes e investigaciones de la organización sobre el abuso policial. Otra ponencia será sobre el Proceso de Redistribución de Distritos Legislativosdirigida por el Senador Thomas Kean, Jr.

Los foros, dirigidos por peritos en sus materias culminaran con la sumisión de recomendaciones a incluir en la agenda de LLANJ.

Educación. Este panel evaluará el status de los Latinos en educación y métodos no tradicionales para garantizar una educación completa y eficaz a todos los estudiantes del estado. Iniciativa de Comunidad de Fe. Este foro es para crear consciencia sobre la importancia de una coalición del liderazgo de la comunidad de fe, lideres y organizaciones cívicos a favor de una agenda de progreso de las comunidades Latinas del estado. Participantes: Delegados de LLANJ Rev. Jose Lopez y Rev. John Muniz, Rev. Jose Martinez, Presidente de Radio Visión Cristiana, Rev. Cleo Santiago, Rev. Joshua Rodriguez, Jose F. Desarrollo Económico. Este taller sera sobre los logros y retos de las pequeñas empresas del estado. Participantes: Luis de la Hoz, Presidente de SHCC, Delegado de LLANJ Jose Colon, Eleazar Bueno, Alminda D’Agostino de Horizon NJ Health, Gregorio Antonio Luciano, John Estevez de FoodTown Supermarkets y Maria Trusa, CEO de Forme Health Care.

Representación. – Este foro es una mesa redonda para dialogar acerca dela trayectoria de varios grupos Latinos en el área de representación politica justa y los retos enfrentados. La cumbre presenta foros de conversación dirigidos por lideres de las diversas poblaciones asentadas en New Jersey, incluyendo a Méjico, Republica Dominicana, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, America Central y otros grupos Latinos America. La Recepción de Almuerzo incluye el discurso del Presidente de LLANJ Néstor Montilla, Sr., sobre el Status de los Latinos en New Jersey.

Habrá una presentación especial del proyecto ‘La Herencia Hispana Escondida de América’ por el periodista-historiador Miguel Pérez. Ademas, participaran los Alcaldes Wilda Diaz, Hector Lora, e Yris Encarnación y el Concejal de Nueva York Carlos Menchaca.

El Gobernador Phil Murphy ha sido invitado a dirigirse a los participantes de la cumber acerca de como su administración ha estado cumpliendo su promesa de mejorar la condición socioeconómica y política de los Latinos de New Jersey.

“La primera cumbre, hace casi veinte años, produjo la fundación de la Alianza del Liderazgo Latino de New Jersey, la mayor y única organización estatal, no-partidista, compuesta de organizaciones locales, y regionales, lideres y profesionales que aboga por el avance de las diversas comunidades de New Jersey”, declaró Paul Pérez, Chairman de LLANJ. “Todos están invitados a participar en esta cumbre histórica que promete una oportunidad unica de crear la agenda Latina de New Jersey para la próxima década”.

The Summit’s program, to be carried out on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 8:30AM to 3:00PM at Berkeley College, 44 Rifle Camp Road, Woodland Park, NJ 07424, includes two plenary sessions and breakout roundtable discussions on education, economic development, faith-based initiative, and representation. It also features a youth leadership pow-wow with Perth Amboy and Paterson High School Students.

The Summit will open with a breakfast plenary session. LLANJ founding President Martin Perez, Esq. will open with a brief recount of LLANJ twenty-year history mobilizing, advocating and empowering NJ diverse communities. The Honorable Gurbir S. Grewal will talk about public safety and civil rights. LLANJ Civil Rights and Public Safety Committee Co-Chair Richard Rivera will talk about LLANJ investigative reports reviewing police conduct, use of force and how police departments investigate citizen complaints. Senator Thomas Kean, Jr.  will speak about the upcoming redistricting process and fair political representation.

The breakfast plenary forum will be followed by concurrent roundtable forums led by experts in their fields; forums are designed for open discussions. Resulting policy recommendations will be included in the LLANJ’s advocacy agenda.  Featured topics of discussion and panelists include:

Education focusing on the status of NJ Latinos in this field and on innovative methods guaranteeing educational opportunities for all students. Participants: LLANJ delegates Patricia Bombelyn and Nelly Celi; Paterson Board of Education Commissioner Manny Martinez; Consuelo Bonillas, Ph.D., from Kean University; Dario Cortes, Ph.D., former President of Berkeley College; Dr. Ivan Lamourt from St. Benedict’s Preparatory School; and Guillermo “Will” de Veyga, Ph.D., from New Jersey City University.

Faith-based Initiative. This roundtable will raise awareness about the importance of building a coalition and a network of faith-based leadership, organizations and civic leaders to advance the Latino/Hispanic Agenda in their respective communities. Youth Leadership.  There will be a Youth Leadership pow-wow where Angela Harrington will make a presentation on Financial literacy and management for young leaders; and historian Hector Bonilla will conduct an interactive stimulating session on Latino pride and idiosyncrasy.

Representation. This multifaceted roundtable forum offers a rare opportunity for diverse Latino leaders to review the migratory circumstances surrounding their arrival in New Jersey, their accomplishments and challenges in education, economic development, and fair political representation. They will agree on issues, and will submit their policy recommendations for inclusion in LLANJ Advocacy Agenda. The concurrent roundtable discussions will be led by leaders healing from NJ diverse Latino communities. Confirmed participants will represent Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Central America and other Latino communities rooted in New Jersey and beyond. In the Luncheon Plenary Session LLANJ President Nestor Montilla, Sr., will deliver the ‘State of New Jersey Latinos’ address.

The Luncheon Session also will include a special presentation titled ‘America’s Hidden Hispanic Heritage’ by Historian/Journalist Miguel Perez; and brief thoughts on empowerment by New Jersey Mayors Wilda Diaz, Hector Lora, and Yris Encarnacion.

Governor Phil Murphy has been invited to address LLANJ delegates and conference attendees regarding how his administration is keeping the campaign promise to improve the socio-economic and political conditions of Latinos in the state of New Jersey.
