Legislative Latino Caucus Issues Statement on Tahesha Way’s Appointment to Serve as Lt. Governor

Trenton – The New Jersey Legislative Latino Caucus issued the following statement today in response to Secretary of State Tahesha Way’s appointment to serve as Lieutenant Governor:

“We applaud Governor Murphy’s selection of Tahesha Way who will follow in Shelia Oliver’s footsteps as our new Lieutenant Governor. Like Shelia, she has broken glass ceilings, but it is her long-standing commitment to fairness, inclusion, and the upholding of democratic principles that will set her apart and allow her to establish her own legacy. Her unique experience managing the state’s 2020 elections during the Covid-19 crisis illustrates her commitment to free and fair elections even in challenging circumstances. Her oversight of the State’s participation in the Census count was critical as it helps determine federal funding amounts for key programs especially in minority communities throughout the state. Now as Lt. Governor, we look forward for her to further champion the needs of working families and help give a voice to the most vulnerable in our communities. We in the legislature are thrilled to work with her in her new role.”
