New Jersey’s new civil statute of limitations, recognized as one of the best in the country, takes effect on December 1, 2019

 

WHAT:

 

Press Conference with Senator Joseph Vitale and other State House members, Zero Abuse Project & New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault on the Changes to New Jersey Sexual Abuse Statute of Limitations

 

Sexual abuse is a pervasive national issue. Earlier this year, following over a decade of advocacy by survivors and lawmakers, Gov. Phil Murphy (D – N.J.) signed into law an expansion of New Jersey’s civil statute of limitations for sexual assault, moving the Garden State from one of the worst states for sexual assault survivors to seek civil justice to one of the best. The new law, which goes into effect on December 1, 2019, also opens a two-year window that allow survivors who were previously time-barred to seek justice via the civil system. Sen. Vitale (D – N.J. LD19) will host a press conference with legislators, victim advocacy groups, and survivors on Monday, December 2 at the New Jersey State House in Trenton to discuss the new law and its effect in N.J.
