Lesniak Calls On Murphy And LaTourette To Stop Inhumane Fish & Game Council’s Deer Management

Union, New Jersey – Former Senator Raymond Lesniak today sent a message by email to Governor Murphy and DEP Commissioner LaTourette to take control of the Fish & Game Council’s Deer Management Program. In the message Lesniak cited information from Princeton Mayor Mark Freda detailing the Fish & Game Council’s refusal to consider sterilization as a more effective and certainly more humane approach to deer management as requested by Princeton’s Mayor.

In an email to Lesniak, Mayor Freda said, “Attached for your information are copies of the back-and-forth we have been engaged in since early fall. The most recent correspondence, coupled with the Division’s refusal to meet with us despite our repeated requests over the past three years, shows the State has no intention of allowing Princeton to use non-lethal means.

I wish I had better news to share. We intend to continue pushing to get the sterilization component approved even if at this point it looks to be an exercise in futility.”

Lesniak informed Governor Murphy and Commissioner LaTourette that his appeal to the Appellate Division to declare that the composition of the Fish & Game Council with 6/11 members recommended by a private organization, The Sportsmen Clubs, violates Article III of the New Jersey Constitution will be heard in the first quarter of next year and that he I expects to win.

Lesniak pointed out that, Article III says “ The powers of the government shall be divided among three distinct branches, the legislative, executive, and judicial.” and does not include The Sportsmen’s Clubs.
