Lesniak Motion To Disband The Fish & Game Council Postponed By Judge Until After December’s Bear Hunt

Union, NJ – Former Senator, Raymond Lesniak was scheduled to argue the case against the Fish & Game Council on December 1st. Due to a scheduling conflict with the Sportsmen’s Club attorney the Summary Judgement has been postponed to January 5th following the start of December’s bear hunt on December 4th.

“Disappointed is not strong enough to describe my feelings when my motion for Summary Judgment to declare the Fish & Game Council’s majority of Sportsmen’s Clubs members unconstitutional was postponed from December 1st to January 5th,” said Lesniak. “Most disappointing is it was postponed because the attorney for the Sportsmen’s Clubs, Stuart A Platt, four days before the hearing, asked for an adjournment because he was leaving on a ‘prepaid vacation’ on December 1st and the letter he submitted to the Court was dated November 9th and not filed with the court until November 27th.”

While The Lesniak Institute is disheartened by the last minute notice, Senator Lesniak is determined to pursue justice for the black bear population in New Jersey as well as making the Fish & Game Council more than a subsidiary of the Sportsmen’s Clubs.

“Platt realized FOUR DAYS before the hearing he was going on a prepaid vacation?” Lesniak questioned, “Now the bear hunt will start Monday, December 4th, without a hearing on the merits of my argument which, if successful, would have made null and void the licenses issued to kill the bears. It is devastating that another month of senseless hunting will take place. These innocent creatures cannot speak up for themselves, we must use our voices on their behalf in order to halt the hunt permanently.”

Lesniak explained that he believes this will be New Jersey’s last bear hunt because the courts will uphold his challenge before next Fall.
