Letter: Appoint Yousef Saleh to Ward D Council seat

Yousef Saleh

Dear Editor,

Tomorrow, the Jersey City Municipal Council will hold a special meeting at 2pm to choose the appointment to the Ward D City Council seat.

Sadly, on April 6, the Heights community and Jersey City lost a true independent icon who always put the people of the community first.

As many of you know, I started a petition to show support for Sean Connors (Former State Assemblyman) to be appointed to the seat. I was able to gather over 900 signatures within 72 hours of support. However, Connors withdrew his name to focus on his role as Acting Director of his department with the Hudson County Sheriffs Office. While that wasn’t the news many wanted to hear, it was his personal choice which I respect.

Two days ago, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Council President Joyce Watterman nominated Yousef J. Saleh as their personal choice. Saleh is a passionate millennial with a strong background to take on his new role. I was proud to support him for school board and more than ever now.

I am hoping the city council votes to appoint him to the Ward D city council seat. I know he will be a strong voice not only for the Heights but the entire city.
