LGBTQ+ Victory Fund Endorses Jennifer Williams for Re-Election to Trenton City Council

National organization endorses Williams as a strong voice for equality and good government.

Trenton, New Jersey – Today, LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ people to public office, endorsed North Ward Councilwoman Jennifer Williams for election to Trenton City Council. The endorsement signals Victory Fund’s confidence that Williams is well-positioned to win her council re-election race and will continue to be a strong voice for equality as she serves in office to represent the North Ward. Williams is the first out LGBTQ+ person on the Trenton City Council and the first transgender person elected to office in New Jersey.

Jennifer made history with her first election in 2022, becoming the first out LGBTQ+ person to ever serve on city council, and will continue to do so with her re-election for a full four-year term.”

LGBTQ+ people remain severely underrepresented in government nationwide – holding just 0.2 percent of elected positions despite representing at least 7.2 percent of the U.S. population, according to LGBTQ+ Victory Institute. As an out-LGBTQ leader, Williams will continue to be an unwavering voice for all Trentonians and for equality for everyone on Trenton City Council. In her first term, Jennifer has focused some of her efforts on quality-of-life issues; reducing poverty and environmental stressors; making quality affordable housing for everyone; creating more minority-owned businesses; improving downtown Trenton; addressing healthcare disparities; reconstituting the North Ward Citizens Police Advisory Council; and bringing technology and internet access to more seniors. In 2023, she also spearheaded the creation of a historical marker acknowledging the 55th Anniversary of the 1968 Riot in downtown Trenton while honoring peace makers who tried to quell the violence.

Jennifer will continue to focus efforts on bringing more development and jobs to Trenton: creating better living conditions for every neighborhood; increasing access to affordable housing and home ownership; ensuring Trenton Water Works delivers clean water; bettering the downtown business environment; and improving conditions along and around Route 1 Expressway in Trenton.
