LGBTQ Victory Fund Endorses Jennifer Williams for Trenton City Council

National organization endorses Williams because she will be a strong voice for equality when elected

Trenton, New Jersey – Today, LGBTQ Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ people to public office, endorsed Jennifer Williams for Trenton City Council. The endorsement signals Victory Fund’s confidence that Williams is well-positioned to win the council race and will be a strong voice for equality once elected. Williams would be the first openly out LGBTQ person on the Trenton City Council if she wins her race.

“LGBTQ Victory Fund is pleased to endorse Jennifer Williams for Trenton City Council,” said Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ Victory Fund. “Jennifer’s commitment to finding smart policy solutions to Trenton’s needs through public input and respectfully asking the tough questions makes her the best candidate to represent the North Ward. When she wins in November, Jennifer will bring a unique and important perspective to Trenton’s City Council and she’ll ensure that all residents are considered when policy decisions are made. She will also make history when elected, becoming the first out LGBTQ person to ever serve on city council.”

LGBTQ people remain severely underrepresented in government nationwide – holding just 0.2 percent of elected positions despite representing at least 7.1 percent of the U.S. population, according to LGBTQ Victory Institute. As an out LGBTQ leader, Williams will be an unwavering voice for all Trentonians and for equality on Trenton City Council. Her priorities in office will include bringing more development and jobs to Trenton; better and more equitable public safety: creating better living conditions for every neighborhood; increasing access to affordable housing and home ownership; upgrading Trenton Water Works to ensure clean water for everyone; and less noise and air pollution along Route 1 Expressway.

City Council candidate Williams stated, “I’m deeply honored to be endorsed by such a prestigious organization as the Victory Fund. Their endorsement demonstrates their belief in my candidacy and our campaign’s ability to win, as well as their understanding of how important this election is to Trenton’s future and the equality of all Trentonians – no matter what they look like, who they are, or where they live.”

Victory Fund will promote Williams’s endorsement among its hundreds of thousands of supporters nationwide. More information about Victory Fund can be found at victoryfund.org.
