Linda Weber’s Statement on the Passage of the Congressional Republican Budget Resolution That Will Raise Taxes on New Jersey Families

Once again, New Jersey families are collateral damage in the Republican-controlled Congress’ ongoing fight to enrich wealthy donors and corporate special interests. House Republicans voted to pass a budget resolution that will eliminate the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, which benefits nearly half of New Jersey families and the majority of families in the 7th Congressional District. Make no mistake, this resolution will increase taxes on the middle class while cutting taxes on big corporations and the ultra-wealthy. This move will result in New Jersey residents paying thousands in additional taxes at a time when we already send more of our hard-earned income to Washington than we get back.

We need to reform our tax system, but it needs to be done in the best interests of working and middle class Americans. Corporations are seeing double-digit profit growth, while many Americans have not seen their paychecks grow in years. It is irresponsible to ask our families to pay more in taxes so that special interests can pay less. I am calling on Rep. Leonard Lance to fight for New Jersey and the 7th Congressional District by taking the lead on stopping this disastrous middle class tax increase from becoming law.
