LIUNA Backs Brigid Harrison for Congress

The Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), the 25,000-member political powerhouse in New Jersey, has announced its support of Brigid Harrison for Congress representing New Jersey’s 2nd
Congressional District. LIUNA Vice President and Eastern Regional Manager Raymond M. Pocino
delivered the following statement:

“Brigid Harrison offers people hope for what Congress can do if we send thoughtful, pragmatic, and selfless people to represent us in Washington. I think she represents a stark contrast to Jeff Van Drew. Harrison is not a career politician, but a political science professor who understands the mechanisms of government and what is needed for true reform. Van Drew, on the other hand, has been in one office or another for 29 yearsand I still don’t think he understands the hardships families face to earn a living, pay for healthcare, and try to create a better life for their children and themselves.

Public service is about putting the public before the personal, and by switching political parties, Jeff Van Drew showed the world that he is more interested in serving himself than the hard-working people of South Jersey. Brigid Harrison reached out to LIUNA to learn about the issues facing working families, our union, and the industries we serve. Harrison understands the importance of creating (and saving) good paying jobs in our region; she understands the importance of workplace protections, access to quality, affordable healthcare, and investing in our nation’s infrastructure.

LIUNA represents a diverse and hardworking membership of men and women who believe that working
together works best. The challenges our country faces—both now and in the future—will require leaders
who are willing to offer creative solutions to the overwhelming obstacles working families face every day.
Brigid Harrison is that kind of leader. We are pleased to offer her our support.
