Local 2262 Jersey City Board of Education Ratifies New Contract

Trenton, NJ – Today, AFSCME Local 2262 members overwhelmingly ratified a tentative contract agreement with the Jersey City Board of Education.

The contract includes significant Chapter 78 relief for health care contributions for the employees. The contract also provides for pay increases to the base salary for the members while moving the members from the Horizon Direct 10 to the Direct 15 health care plan.

“For the past seven years, all public employees in New Jersey have been taking home less in every paycheck because of the effects of Chapter 78 and they have been struggling to keep their heads above water,” said AFSCME NJ Executive Director Steven M. Tully. “This landmark agreement represents a real breakthrough toward providing public employees with significant relief from Chapter 78 and is a testament to what can be accomplished through collective bargaining.”

The Jersey City Board of Education will vote on the contract later this month.
