Local Students Running for Board of Education in Evesham

EVESHAM – This upcoming election, two candidates from Evesham Township are local students who want to give back to their community. Anthony Foster, a student at Montclair, and Aiden DeMarsey, a student at Rutgers, are running for seats on the Evesham Board of Education. They believe their recent experience in Evesham public schools gives them a valuable perspective on education policy.

Anthony Foster and his family moved to Evesham for the excellent schools. He wants to ensure that public education is as good for the next generation as it was for him.

Aiden DeMarsey, a lifelong resident of the Township, is running to pursue public service in his hometown. He is the former President of the Evesham Youth Advisory Committee and hopes to address critical local issues on the school board.

According to their website, the two candidates are running to restore bus routes in highly congested parts of town, fight hard against state-aid budget cuts, and promote student mental health services and programs. Additionally, they express the need to depoliticize local education amidst the increasing presence of national issues within local politics.

“We are dedicated to bringing solutions from students’ perspective if elected to the Board of Education. Lots of folks who run for office have an agenda. We do not believe in those motives and want to refocus local politics on solving problems for Evesham residents.” Foster expressed.

“Our neighborhoods have lost buses, causing a threat to student safety; Trenton bureaucrats have slashed our state funding, and our students are suffering from an ongoing mental health crisis. These are the issues that need to be addressed.” DeMarsey added.

The Foster & DeMarsey for Evesham campaign is pushing for a new generational perspective on the local school board. “I mean, after all, when it comes to education, who better than students? We do not just see these issues on paper; instead, we lived through budget cuts and saw our friends and peers struggle with mental health. That is a vital perspective for policy making on the board of education.” Foster explained.

Election Day in New Jersey is November 7th. There are currently five candidates running for three seats on the Board of Education in Evesham. DeMarsey stated, “We have spoken to many residents around town, and they are excited that young candidates are getting involved to make a difference. That makes us excited about what we can do to give back to our town and deliver real solutions.”
