Locals rally for Battalion Chief James “YJ” Weiss after welding accident left him severely injured

After a large sheet of metal fell on top of 59-year-old James “YJ” Weiss while on a work site, a GoFundMe was launched to help as he heals.

As the campaign states, “Newark Fire, Paterson Fire, Hackensack Fire, Saddle Brook Fire, Maplewood Fire, and the many other departments and friends have already pitched in…Brotherhood is often spoken about, but until there is truly a need, many don’t fully recognize the true bond we all share and how connected everyone is to each other in the greatest profession there is.”

Campaign Description
Retired Newark Battalion Chief James “YJ” Weiss was welding on a training prop for a volunteer fire department when a large metal sheet collapsed and crushed him below. He has sustained numerous fractures and internal injuries, as well as some severe head injuries. He is currently located in St. Josephs Hospital in Paterson, NJ and remains in the ICU since the incident occurred on January 15th, 2020.  Each passing day, his condition is improving. Doctors have a very positive outlook and he has always been known for strength, courage, and perseverance, so we all are praying for a full recovery. We have started this GO Fund Me to help his family in this tragic time as each day he is in the hospital, he has lost the steady income from his work. His family has been extremely humbled by all the members of Newark Fire, Paterson Fire, Hackensack Fire, Saddle Brook Fire, Maplewood Fire, and the many other departments and friends that have already pitched in to assist them in this time. Brotherhood is often spoken about, but until there is truly a need, many don’t fully recognize the true bond we all share and how connected everyone is to each other in the greatest profession there is. Please join our brotherhood, our family of firefighters and emergency workers to help YJ and his family in this difficult time. YJ has a wife, three daughters, and a son. Any help will be immensely appreciated.
