Lonegan Statement on President Trump’s Withdrawal from Iranian Nuclear Deal
Hackensack, NJ — Mayor Steve Lonegan, candidate for U.S. Congress in New Jersey’s 5th District, has issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s decision to withdraw from Iranian nuclear deal.
“President Trump has long said that the Iranian nuclear deal was one of the worst foreign policy disasters in American history. He was 100% right. Today, president Trump has followed through on his promise to end this terrible arrangement and put the safety and security of the American people first.
The tyrannical regime in Iran has proven they cannot be trusted. From day one they have violated the terms of this deal and have continued to pursue a clandestine nuclear weapons program. For years, the Iranian regime has been a menace to peace and to its own people. Dating back to the hostage crisis in 1979, the murderous, bloodthirsty regime in Iran has been attacking American interests and threatening our allies in the Middle East, Israel chief among them.
“Barack Obama and John Kerry should be ashamed for ever brokering this deal in the first place and foolishly putting our nation’s security at risk. Not only did they put their trust in this evil regime, but they allowed the largest state sponsor of terror in the world to have access to billions of dollars to spread even more terror and death across the region.
Today, President Trump displayed enormous courage to pull out of this awful deal and put the interests of America and our allies first. America must be a beacon of liberty and stand up to the forces of despotism across the globe. President Trump sent that message loud and clear by withdrawing from the Iranian nuclear deal and he put the Iranian regime on notice that the days of soft American foreign policy are over.”
