Newton, NJ — Mayor Steve Lonegan, Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th District, will hold a Tax Freedom Day press event at the Washington Borough Municipal Building on Thursday, May 3 at 11:30 a.m.

Lonegan will be joined by state Senator Mike Doherty (R-23) to stand in support of the GOP tax cuts passed by Congress and mobilize opposition to the Murphy-Gottheimer plan to impose a $1.6 bilion tax hike on New Jersey residents.

Tax Freedom Day represents the day taxpayers have paid off their total federal, state and local tax bill for the year according to the non-partisan Tax Foundation. Tax Freedom Day in New Jersey occurs on May 3 this year, tied for the seond latest date in the nation, and 14 days later than the national average (April 19).
