Longtime Anti-Violence Activist Pam Johnson Launches Bid for Ward A City Council on Team O’Dea

Johnson Joins “Our City. Our Choice.” A City-Wide Slate Led by Commissioner Bill O’Dea That Has Brought Together Powerhouse Candidates From Around Jersey City.

JERSEY CITY — Pam Johnson, a fierce advocate against violence and lifelong Greenville resident, is proud to announce her candidacy for City Council representing Ward A. Johnson will run alongside Mayoral candidate and County Commissioner Bill O’Dea. She was joined by many local elected officials, family, friends and colleagues at a rally on the corner of Wade Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive today to announce her candidacy. Known for her resilience and dedication, Johnson is ready to bring real change to the community she loves.

Twenty years ago, Johnson was a gunshot victim on the south side of Jersey City. Instead of leaving, she stayed and founded the Anti-Violence Coalition of Hudson County, where she currently serves as Executive Director.

“I stand on this corner today because this is where my parents decided to lay their foundation, planting their roots not only for themselves but for their children,” said Johnson about her decision. “I was born and raised as a child of Ward A. It is where I became a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and a humanitarian. It is my foundation and the roots are ‘Ward A Strong!’ I’m proud to join Team O’Dea to help move our campaign forward with teammates who boast a track record of service and love Jersey City.”

Pam Johnson is the latest candidate to join “Our City. Our Choice.” a coalition of Jersey City incumbents and rising-stars led by Commissioner O’Dea which also includes at-large candidates Councilman Danny Rivera and educator Kristen Zadroga-Hart.

Johnson’s life experiences and deep ties to Jersey City have motivated her to transform her passion for advocacy into something greater. As the leader of the Anti-Violence Coalition, Johnson has united thousands to combat the root causes of crime and advocate for necessary community services. Johnson, like O’Dea, is running to address the pressing issues facing Ward A: rising property taxes, crime, affordable housing, and overall quality of life. “Greenville residents deserve a representative who fights for them,” Johnson asserts. “I’ve been fighting for our community for years, and now it’s time for me to bring what I’ve got to say to City Hall.”

Notable attendees at the rally included Commissioner and Candidate for Jersey City Mayor Bill O’Dea, County Register Jeff Dublin, Ward F Councilman Frank Gilmore, Hudson County Clerk Junior Maldonado, Councilman at-Large Danny Rivera, Candidate for Councilwoman at-Large Kristen Zadroga-Hart, Hispanic American Commerce Association (HACA) Advisor and Local Activist Elvin Dominci-Encarnacion and Former Ward B Councilman Chris Gadsden.

With Greenville experiencing a wave of economic development, O’Dea emphasizes the need for inclusive growth. “We welcome new residents to our vibrant neighborhoods like Porte Liberte, Country Village, Society Hill, and Currie Woods, but we must ensure that Greenville remains a home for everyone,” said O’Dea. “Pam is a homeowner, a mother and a tireless advocate for our city. I know she can do this and I’m proud to stand beside her today as she joins our coalition.”

Pam Johnson is calling on the residents of Ward A to join her in this fight for a better Jersey City. For more information about Pam Johnson’s campaign please email pamjohnsonwarda@gmail.com.
