Veteran, Correctional Police Officer to Campaign in all Mercer Municipalities for Freeholder

(LAWRENCE, NJ) – Lance Lopez today formally announced his candidacy for Mercer County Freeholder, seeking to fill the seat vacated by Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli.

“I’m all in!” said Lance Lopez, a veteran and state correctional police officer.

“For me, it’s really simple: county government has become too disconnected, distracted and dispirited,” said Lopez. “It has an arms length relationship with the residents of this county and it’s unacceptable.”

“I can no longer sit by and watch opportunity-after-opportunity pass us by in Mercer County,” said Lopez. “We must do more: for our veterans, for our schools, and for our economy.”

Lopez, a life-long Democrat and Mercer County resident, was born in the city of Trenton and spent most of his life in Lawrence. A father of five children and grandfather of two grandchildren.

Lopez serves as a correctional police officer for the New Jersey Department of Corrections, a position he has held for 24 years. In 2012, he was elected president of PBA Local 105, where he oversaw a union of 5,500 members, an experience that has helped prepare him for public office. He served two terms as president.

“I’m going to campaign in all 12 towns, and compete for every single county committee vote,” said Lopez.
