Lt. Gov. Way to Provide Opening Remarks at NJBIA’s Women Business Leaders Forum

Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way has been added to the list of speakers at the 2023 New Jersey Women Business Leaders Forum, NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka announced today.

Lt. Gov. Way will provide the opening remarks for the two-day event, held at Newark Liberty International Airport, on Sept. 27-28.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have Lt. Gov Way at the WBLF this year,” Siekerka said. “In addition to being an effective leader for New Jersey tourism and our economy while serving as Secretary of State, Lt. Gov. Way also is a strong advocate for the growth of diversity in the workplace and in the board room.

“She will be a natural fit for our program’s mission and I know all of our registrants will be thrilled to hear from her.”

The 2023 New Jersey Women Business Leaders Forum, powered by NJBIA, is the state’s largest professional women’s conference, featuring more than 50 speakers and panelists.

The event brings together hundreds of women and men for engaging workshops, dynamic TED-style talks and one-on-one coaching opportunities.

On Sept. 8, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Secretary of State Way as the next Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey.

In a ceremony in the New Jersey Executive State House, Lt. Gov. Way was sworn into her new role, which she assumed after the unexpected passing of Lt. Gov. Sheila Y. Oliver on Aug. 1.

During her tenure as Secretary of State, a role she continues to maintain, Way became the first Black person and first Secretary of State from New Jersey to lead the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) as President, helping to defend democracy at both the state and national level.

Prior to becoming Secretary of State, Way was an Administrative Law Judge for the State of New Jersey. She was elected to the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 2006, where she later served as the Freeholder Director in 2009. She also served as a Council Member for the New Jersey Highlands Water Protection and Planning Council.

Lt. Gov. Way is a graduate of Brown University. She also holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law at Charlottesville. She and her husband, Charles, have four children and reside in Wayne.
