Trenton, NJ – Today, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno presented the New Jersey Department of State’s Business Action Center and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development with Honor Roll Awards from the “Made in New Jersey Program” at the 6th annual New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program’s (NJMEP) “Made in New Jersey” National Manufacturing Day.“I’m proud our Business Action Center and Department of Labor are being recognized by the manufacturing industry for all their great work to support business and workforce development across our great State,” said Lt. Governor Guadagno.  “This recognition is certainly a reflection of the great partnership we’ve established with the NJMEP and the manufacturing community over the last eight years.”

The NJMEP’s Made in New Jersey Honor Roll for Manufacturing & STEM award program was established to recognize those in Government and Higher Education who make a positive contribution to the advancement of the manufacturing and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) industries.  Nominations are made by manufacturing and STEM firms, expert resources, and NJMEP/New Jersey Business & Industry Association staff members.  The final selection is made by an industry panel.

New Jersey’s manufacturing industry has been a vibrant contributor to our State’s economy for close to 200 years, and the Garden State is often credited with being a birthplace of the U.S. Industrial Revolution.  Today, the State is home to nearly 10,000 manufacturing companies, which altogether employ nearly 250,000 workers, contribute more than $41.6 billion annually to our gross domestic product, and account for nearly 90 percent of our total exports.
