Luis Antilus Appointed to Irvington Municipal Council, Succeeding Retiring Council member Vern Cox!

IRVINGTON, NJ – On Monday, January 27, 2025, Luis Antilus was unanimously appointed to the Irvington Municipal Council, stepping into the role previously held by retiring West Ward Council member Vern Cox. Councilman Cox dedicated nearly a decade to the council, serving the Irvington community from 2014 until December 2024. His unwavering commitment and tireless advocacy for the residents of Irvington have left an indelible mark on the Township.

“Vern Cox has been a stalwart leader in our community, demonstrating exceptional dedication and passion for the betterment of Irvington,” said Mayor Tony Vauss. “We are grateful for his service and the positive impact he has made during his time on the council.”

Luis Antilus brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the community he has called home for over 30 years. He holds a Certified Public Manager (CPM) and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Rutgers University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Bloomfield College. His professional background includes significant roles within the State of New Jersey, where he served as a Supervising Family Service Specialist and a SPRU Worker. Additionally, Mr. Antilus has contributed to the educational landscape as a member of the Irvington Board of Education.

“I am honored to take on this responsibility and am committed to being a representative for all of the West Ward,” said Antilus. “I aim to serve the people of Irvington to the best of my ability, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.”

Mr. Antilus has garnered the support of the Irvington Democratic Committee, as well as the endorsement of Mayor Tony Vauss and Council Members Vick, Hudley, Beasley, Brown, Frederick, and Anthony Vauss Jr. Their collective trust in his capabilities underscores the confidence the community has in his leadership.

As we transition from Councilman Cox to Councilman Antilus, we look forward to a new chapter in Irvington’s governance—one that will continue to build upon the strong foundation laid by Councilman Cox while embracing the innovative vision of Councilman Antilus.
