Lumberton Dems: Republicans spend more on annual campaigns than the starting salary of a township police officer

Lumberton Republicans spend more on annual campaigns than the starting salary of a township police officer

Mayor Sean Earlen who also serves as Republican Chairman of Burlington County funnels thousands to Lumberton elections.

For over fifteen years Republicans have controlled Lumberton Township. Their one-party control has cost the taxpayers millions of dollars, huge contracts are dished out to campaign contributors and the hardworking residents are paying for it.

Despite the State investigating the Lumberton Republican machine in 2016 after they illegally transferred funds from one campaign account to the next they continue their reign unchecked.

State ELEC reports show this year alone the Lumberton Republicans have raised over $60,000 in special interest money. The $60,000 slush fund was raised by taking in donations from lawyers and engineers that have contracts with the township. Sad to say the Republicans spend this absurd amount on their campaigns every year while they only pay a township police officer a starting salary of $35,000. In fact, it takes a Lumberton Police Officer eight years on the force to make that much a year. The NJ ELEC reports for Januseski and Lumberton Republican Committee read like a “pay-to-play” novel. Every year they funnel money through the local Republican organization and consistently spend over $50,000 annually on their campaigns.

Incumbent politician Kristin Januseski, who entered the Lumberton Township race at the last minute in 2016 after a Republican committeeman was forced to drop his reelection bid in the wake of a campaign finance scandal, has kept the republican tradition alive in Lumberton by accepting thousands of dollars from township lawyers and engineers.

Democratic candidate Rue Ryan, a longtime Lumberton resident seeking to bring change and rejuvenation to the township, is calling on the Republican controlled Township Committee to pass a pay-to-play ordinance to stop the special interest money flowing into the Republican coffers. “If Kristin Januseski wants what is best for Lumberton Township she would not accept special interest contributions for her campaign” said Ryan. “I find it appalling that Lumberton Republicans spend more money on their elections every year than they do on a police officer’s starting salary”.

“For too long, the hardworking residents of Lumberton Township have been tricked by the politicians elected to represent them. Mrs. Januseski had an opportunity to distance herself from their crooked ways but her fundraising reports prove otherwise.” The Lumberton Republican’s record speaks for itself; tax increases, police department layoffs and campaign finance scandals.

“It’s clear now that the dirty tactics that dominate our national political landscape have taken root right here in our own backyards,” said Ryan. “If elected I will support a pay-to-play ordinance found in other towns to stop the flow of dirty campaign cash in Lumberton.
