MacArthur Supports Bipartisan Package to Fund the Government

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today Congressman Tom MacArthur voted to fund critical government entities including the Department of Veterans Affairs, military construction, and the Department of Energy. The bill maintains the ten percent spending cut for Congress and Member pay freeze that have been in effect since fiscal year 2010. This is the first time since 2007 that Congress will send more than one appropriations bill to the President prior to the end of the fiscal year.

“This bipartisan government funding package is essential. The Department of Veterans Affairs, which provides veterans with critically important opioid abuse prevention programs, mental health care services, and homelessness services, will receive the largest funding amount in the VA’s history,” said Congressman MacArthur. “South Jersey is home to more than 50,000 veterans and I know how important these programs are for our nation’s heroes to receive the best possible care. We’ve also included measures to make VA management more accountable.  In addition, Congress provides critical funding to the Army Corps of Engineers.  As we keep those in the path of Hurricane Florence in our thoughts, those of us who remember Superstorm Sandy know how vital it is to support the Army Corps’ work.”
