Make the Road Action Endorses Senator Joe Cryan for State Senate in LD-20

Strong Champion for Immigrants and the Working-Class

Elizabeth, NJ – March 3, 2021: Today, membership based organization Make the Road Action announced their endorsement of Senator Joseph Cryan for re-election to New Jersey’s 20th Legislative District.

“Senator Cryan’s impressive track record of support for immigrants and working class communities of color stands out not only at home in the 20th District, but also nation-wide. An early supporter of extending drivers licenses to immigrants in NJ, he also spearheaded efforts to create the first guaranteed severance pay law in the country in the wake of mass layoffs spurred by private equity backed buyouts. Now, during the pandemic, when our state is at risk of worsening economic and racial inequality, we need strong leaders that can support a just recovery and ensure that no one is left behind from aid, especially our immigrant brothers and sisters,” said Sara Cullinane, New Jersey state director of Make the Road Action.

“I’m extremely proud to receive the endorsement of Make the Road Action for our re-election campaign,” said Senator Cryan.  “We’ve worked hard to effect positive change in communities throughout Elizabeth, Union, Hillside and Roselle but it remains critical that we continue to fight every day for social justice and racial equality and Make the Road is a tremendous partner in those efforts.  If re-elected I will continue to be on the frontlines fighting to provide every community with access to vaccinations, personal protective equipment and COVID aid to those left behind, while we adhere to recommendations put forward by the scientific community to make sure we can continue to reopen our schools and small businesses safely and securely.”

“Communities of color and immigrants in the 20th Legislative District have benefitted greatly from Senator Cryan’s leadership. He has championed our struggles in Trenton – from raising the minimum wage, including for teen workers, passing drivers licenses for undocumented immigrants, and provide access to aid for immigrants impacted by COVID. We are thrilled to announce our endorsement and ready to do the work to ensure his re-election,” said Raquel Morsy, member leader of Make the Road Action and resident of Hillside, NJ.

“Senator Cryan has consistently fought for youth of color and students. He stood by our side as we launched our first Student Success Center in Elizabeth, as we fought for teen workers to be included in the minimum wage and helped us win financial aid for undocumented students and Dreamers in New Jersey. As a first time voter and member of Make the Road Action, I am excited to support Senator Cryan for re-election,” said Ester Carrera member of Make the Road Action and resident of Elizabeth, NJ.
