Make the Road Action in NJ Responds to Mid-Term Election Results

Latino Voters Reject Trump and Hate, Defeat Anti-Immigrant Candidates

In response to the election results in the Congressional mid-term elections, Lorenza Garcia — leader of the grassroots, membership based immigrant and Latinx organization Make the Road Action NJ– who led canvass efforts, including knocking on 13,000 doors of Latinx voters of color and contacting 20,000 more through phone calls and texts issued the following statement:

“Latino voters in New Jersey have helped shift the balance of power in this country. We have repudiated Trump’s fear mongering: and defeated incumbent Republicans and dangerous Trump allies who are intent on separating our families and taking away our health care. Our message has been clear: we reject Trump’s hateful rhetoric; this country needs a new direction on immigration; and we demand respect and dignity for all. We congratulate Senator Bob Menendez, Congressman Elect Tom Malinowski and Congresswoman-Elect Mikie Sherrill and we look forward to working together to build a country that guarantees respect and dignity for all.”

Make the Road Action – NJ builds the power of immigrant and Latinx communities through civic engagement and public policy innovation. Visit us at www.maketheroadaction.org or @MaketheRoadAct.
