All Democratic Members of the New Jersey Congressional Delegation are Co-Sponsors of the Act, Which Will Bring Relief and a Pathway to Citizenship to 2 Million Immigrants

Elizabeth, NJ May 23, 2019: In response to the Dream and Promise Act passing out of the House Judiciary Committee last night without any amendments that would criminalize immigrant communities, youth leaders and potential beneficiaries of the Dream and Promise Act issued the following statements:

Rey Amaya, of Elizabeth, Make the Road New Jersey youth leader and potential beneficiary of the Dream and Promise Act said:

“I just finished my second year of Civil Engineering and every semester I contemplate whether I will be able to pursue my career with my immigration status. The news regarding the Dream and Promise Act gives me hope. I urge New Jersey members of Congress to support this bill without any amendments that would criminalize our communities.”

Maria del Cielo Mendez, of Plainfield, Make the Road New Jersey youth leader and potential beneficiary of the Dream and Promise Act said:

“As an undocumented youth, student, and worker, I am motivated to see our members of Congress fight for immigration reform that does not include provisions that would deport my parents or the separate any family in my community. As we move throughout our day – everyday – we remember that our futures are on the line, but we only let that inspire us to work harder and organize for a solution. The Dream and Promise Act is this solution. We urge immediate passage in the House of Representatives and call on our members of Congress from New Jersey to vote yes.”
