MARIA’S WOMEN UNITED HOSTS 3RD ANNUAL AWARDS GALA

MARIA’S WOMEN UNITED HOSTS 3RD ANNUAL AWARDS GALA
(Mt. Laurel) – Maria’s Women United, a South Jersey-based organization dedicated to empowering Democratic women to run for office, hosted its Third Annual Awards and Membership Gala tonight. The event was held at the home of Alice Paul, Suffragette and author of the Equal Rights Amendment. It again honored women throughout the region whose commitment to serving others best exemplifies the legacy of Maria Barnaby Greenwald, for whom the organization was named.
This year’s honorees are Stephanie Fisher (Maria Barnaby Greenwald Legacy
Award), Celeste Riley (Public and Community Service Award), Robin Walton (Empowerment Award), and Ishita Panwar (Rising Star Award).
“Each one of these women is a champion for change in our region, and I am extremely proud to be a part of this event to honor them,” said Amy Swan, Chairwoman. “The best part of tonight is how it will help us empower more Democrat women to seek and achieve elected office. Fundraising is a huge hurdle in any campaign, but especially for women. Tonight will help clear the way for more women to be successful in their bids for public office.”
In years past, the funds raised at this event have helped the campaigns of women throughout the region. Last year, the organization contributed to the campaigns of  20 women, 13 of whom won, with five achieving public office for the first time.
Maria’s Women United was established in 2016 to honor the legacy of Maria  Barnaby Greenwald, a trailblazing public servant whose commitment to her community was matched only by her efforts to empower others to follow in her footsteps.
