Marlboro GOP Leader Predicts Voter Backlash Over Airport Eminent Domain Abuse

The Marlboro Township Republican Organization Chairman today called upon county government to cease its unprecedented hundred-million-dollar eminent domain seizure of the Monmouth Executive Airport in Wall Township
Marlboro GOP Chairman Renzo Kolenovic said this week if the county commissioners insist on wasting millions of dollars to take a privately owned airport that the county does not need: “there will be a county-wide voter backlash in next year’s elections.”

“Everyone I have talked to about the airport condemnation thinks it is a bad idea morally, philosophically and politically,” said Kolenovic. “Taking a private business for no apparent public purpose goes against the beliefs of Republicans, who want limited, pro-business government. If the commissioners go through with their plans to take the airport by eminent domain, Republicans will suffer in next years’ election. I do not want to see that happen.”

The county commissioners began their assault quietly on the Wall Township airport in November 2023, when they approved a resolution seeking to gain access to the airport property through New Jersey’s eminent domain act.

The county’s condemnation efforts have continued with the hiring of special counsels and consultants with virtually no transparency from the commissioners about the hiring of the professionals or their purpose.

Commissioner Thomas Arnone, who is up for re-election in 2025 ( with fellow Commissioner Dominick DiRocco) is the architect of the airport condemnation plan. Kolenovic predicted that Arnone will be a target in next year’s election and could drag down many local Republican candidates.

“The message that Mr. Arnone is sending to voters and business owners is that he doesn’t care about private property rights; he does not care about helping businesses; he doesn’t care about how he spends taxpayer money. All he cares about is his ability to abuse his power on a scheme that he has refused to reveal to the votes,” added Kolenovic.

Kolenovic – a frequent critic of the Monmouth GOP organization, said the party needs to get back to standing up for Republican values and stop acting like Democrats.

“I want to see real Republicans representing Republican values running and winning elections in 2025,” said Kolenovic. “That goal will be a lot harder to achieve when our Republican-controlled county government spends too much and abuses people’s rights to own and operate a business. The commissioners are handing issues to the Democrats that will be used against us.”
