MARLBORO TOWNSHIP REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES REFUSE TO DEBATE

League of Women Voters of Monmouth County Vice President: “We have received no replies . . .  from any of the Republican candidates.”

MARLBORO – The Marlboro First Team of Mayor Jon Hornik, Council member Michael Scalea and Council candidate Iqleen Virdi today released a statement questioning Republican candidate for Mayor Feiby Dawod and Council candidates Renzo Kolenovic and John Russotto’s refusal to debate the issues important to Township voters in advance of Election Day.

The Republican candidates, who have dubbed themselves the “Best Team” despite all evidence to the contrary, refused to even acknowledge a request from the Monmouth County League of Women Voters to participate in a Virtual Candidates’ forum on September 21st.

Their refusal to even acknowledge the standard forum prompted the organization’s Vice President, Marianne Kligman to send an email on August 29th to all six candidates stating:

“While we had full agreement from all Democratic candidates to participate in our proposed Virtual Candidates’ forum for September 21, we have received no replies (positive or negative) from any of the Republican candidates.

Therefore, it is with regret that we must cancel the proposed forum and will no longer hold that date available . . .

The League strongly believes that candidates who wish to serve their constituents in public office should make themselves available in a public, non-partisan forum to explain why they deserve their vote.”

The Republican candidates still refused to speak directly to the voters.

Hornik, Scalea and Virdi’s statement was sharp and to the point: “We agree that anyone who wants to serve the residents of Marlboro Township should be willing to present their ideas for the future to the people they wish to represent.  We certainly were. We are proud of the work done to make our township one of the safest in the nation while keeping taxes down and establishing Marlboro as one of only six towns in the entire state to achieve a AAA bond rating.  Our opponents want you to vote for them, but they can’t even be bothered to tell you why.”
