My community-driven plan for a prosperous Jersey City
Today we release a White Paper on economic development and how we can create a more prosperous Jersey City for all of our residents. Our plan will incentivize and promote activity that creates jobs and tax revenue for our city. Importantly, we will involve the community at the earliest stages of development decisions and we will connect employers to people who need our jobs.
The Plan:
Community input at the earliest stages of development
Citizen oversight board for tax abatements
Zoning and tax incentives for commercial and light industrial development
Mandatory first floor retail in certain buildings
Explore commercial rent control and fines for vacant land and storefronts
For the first time, a city-wide inventory of all open jobs in Jersey City
More vocational-technical training and apprenticeships
Tailor-made job training that trains citizens in useful skills for available jobs
Implement the Croson Study to ensure that minority owned businesses are fully participating in the commerce of our city
