Mayor Davis’s Statement on Bayonne’s First Positive Local Case of Coronavirus
Residents of Bayonne,
As you are all aware, we have been taking steps to help inhibit the spread of the Coronavirus. We knew that it was only a matter of time when our residents would be affected, and we do have our first case among one of our neighbors.
A 74 year-old male, who is currently in stable condition at the Bayonne Medical Center, has tested positive for COVID-19. The medical staff at BMC is following all proper isolation and quarantine protocols for this gentleman.
This is certainly not a time for panic or fear. We all need to follow the advice and directives that have been put in place to help slow the spread of this virus. Continue to go about your lives as best as you can, but use a common sense approach. Continue to wash your hands frequently, do not touch your mouth or face, limit the time you spend around other people. In New Jersey and here in Bayonne, we have created a number of directives to help increase social distancing. Continue to follow these directives, as these steps will certainly help slow its spread throughout our community.
We will continue to share information on our city website at www.bayonnenj.org and on my social media pages, as well as City of Bayonne and Bayonne Office of Emergency Management social media. We are all praying for our neighbor’s speedy recovery and the safety and well-being of all of us. Be safe.
