Mayor-elect Soriano and Councilwomen-elect Janice McCarthy and Emily Peterson Endorse Mikie Sherrill

FAIRFIELD, NJ – Parsippany Mayor-elect Michael Soriano and Councilwomen-elect Janice McCarthy and Emily Peterson today announced their support for Mikie Sherrill for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.  Mayor-elect Soriano and Councilwomen-elect Janice McCarthy and Emily Peterson endorsements follow last week’s major endorsements by Governor Richard Codey, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey and 23 additional endorsements from Morris County elected officials.

In a statement released earlier this morning Mayor-elect Soriano said: “Since announcing her campaign in the spring, Mikie has shown that she has the poise, intelligence and strength to fight for the people of Parsippany and the 11th District in the House of Representatives. I could not imagine a better representative for Morris County than a prosecutor and veteran of our armed forces. We need a leader in Washington who will fight for our men and women in uniform, at home and overseas.”

Councilwoman-elect Janice McCarthy added: “Mikie Sherrill: courage, character, proven leadership and judgment. Her credentials are unquestionable. She has served our country honorably and now represents our best hope for New Jersey’s future. She is a voice for a new generation; that’s why I’m supporting Mikie Sherrill for Congress to represent the 11th District.”

“I fully support Mikie Sherrill for CD 11. Her military service and professional experience as a prosecutor compliment her compassion and commitment to working families in New Jersey. As a working mom myself, I couldn’t ask for a better representative in Washington,” stated Emily Peterson.

Soriano continued: “I had the privilege of knocking on doors with Mikie in Mount Tabor over the summer.  Nothing shows a commitment to learning the needs of the people quite like canvassing door-to-door.  I know that Mikie will spend 2018 running a grassroots campaign, knocking on doors across the 11th District and bringing the concerns of the people directly to Washington.  That’s how we begin to change our country for the better.”

In response to the endorsement Mikie Sherrill said: ” Mayor-elect Michael Soriano and Councilwomen-elect Janice McCarthy, and Emily Peterson are the face of new leadership in New Jersey. They showed that by talking to our neighbors, by pressing for open and accountable government, we can come together to improve the quality of life in all of our towns. I am honored to have their endorsement and will carry the lessons learned from their example in Parsippany into 2018. Together we will be strong partners for New Jersey.”

The Soriano team mark the third set of district endorsements for Mikie Sherrill since she began her campaign in May. In September, Mayor Keith Kazmark of Woodland Park and the Woodland Park Council announced their support.  Additionally, Mikie received national endorsements from VoteVets, EMILY’s List, Giffords/Americans for Responsible Solutions, End Citizens United PAC, New Politics, and Congressman Seth Moulton. In November, the Cook Political Report moved New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District to a toss-up, making this race one of the most competitive in the 2018 cycle.
